#Blooming
My perspective of teaching and learning have changed mainly in my art education classes, where I’ve learned about teaching philosophies. In the past I imagined teaching art was all about teaching my students techniques, tools, art principles and so forth. As my college career moved forward, I started to understand that teaching art was about teaching students to think differently. To explore, discover through play and make connections. It’s my job to methodically create lesson plans that foster these moments for individual creativity that is pertinent to students and their lives. Expecting a group of diverse and unique students to all think and work on the exact same task in the exact same way doesn’t foster creativity. I see that in the future I must teach my students to be creative thinkers and problem solvers. I chose to represent this process of relearning and moving towards a better understanding of teaching/ learning through the metaphor of a flower blooming from seed. These forms assist me in expressing how my learning has grown and changed with time and helps me expand my knowledge. As I move forward my understanding blooms further and further. This experience influences me to always be open to my own learning and self discovery to benefit myself and my students. I know that my growth is everlasting!
