#BuildingBridges
My teaching philosophy is shaped by my personal experiences as an art student in school, as well as my hands on experiences with students in the classroom. When I was a student my connections with my teachers impressed the importance of relationship building, safe spaces and positive energy. My teachers provided me the valuable freedom to be myself, be creative as well as inspired and motivated my work. I was consistently encouraged to push outside my comfort zones, and found that this is where some of the most important learning generates from. Once I started teaching, I recognized that being a teacher means that I too am always learning and that I will constantly be challenged to push myself and my students. I also found the value of consistency, teachers are role models for all of their students and we have to show up in every sense. With that being said, we have to remember that we are all human and support one another through our ups and downs.
My metaphor represents my philosophy because the bridge needs all of its parts to function as a whole. One cup represents me, and the other, my students. The connecting sticky notes represent each of the philosophies I believe in. If one piece is missing, the bridge would collapse and we aren't able to reach our goals as a team! Not to worry though, if one falls through we can always try again tomorrow! Teaching is a lot like life. You have good days and bad days, but you push yourself to do your best and see the positivity in everything. My goal is too create a classroom climate and culture where my students know they belong so they're ready to learn as well as to provide opportunities for each individual student in a way conducive to their personal needs.
